Pack 426 events from August 7, 2010 back to November 8, 2009
On Saturday, August 20, the pack wrapped up its Summertime events at Sunsplash Water Park in Cape Coral.

On Saturday, June 11, the Karlsons hosted an End of School/Pool Party at their home to kick off the Summer!! Greg cooked up some delicious hamburgers & hot dogs and chips, desserts and drinks were also served up. The kids had a great time swimming in the pool and sliding down the slide. Before eating lunch, Angel Behrman presented Pam Karlson with a plaque and engraved plate in recognition of her contributions and leadership as Cubmaster. Greg was also presented with an appreciation certificate. Some of the partygoers went down to the lake to swim and a few went tubing.


Pack 426 hosted this summer's Twilight Camp from Monday, June 20 to Friday, June 24. Each evening from 5:30 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. Over thirty scouts and their siblings from Packs 426, 846 & 808 met at the First United Methodist Church in Sebring. The theme for this year's twilight camp  was "Jungle Safari". Activities were broken down into 3 main categories; Sports/Outdoor, Craft and Range. The Sports/Outdoor activities for the week were basketball, treasure hunt (map & compass), elephant ball, safari dress-up relay and obstacle course. The Craft activities included making rainsticks, animal stick puppets, beady critters and marshmallow shooters. Out on the Range, the scouts participated in firing catapults, slingshots (wrist rockets), bb guns and honing their archery skills.  Also each evening, a snack & beverage was served to all participants. This included exotic treats such as chocolate-covered bananas, monkey cupcakes & sunny d, ants on a log & red bug juice and Jungle Jim's safari mix & green bug juice. On Friday, the Twilight Camps culminated with a dinner of pulled pork sandwiches & baked beans. After the dinner, the scouts went outside to take on the waterslide and other games. Thanks to all staff, parents and all other volunteers who helped make this summer's Twilight Camps such a great experience.



Fourteen scouts from Pack 426 visited the Kennedy Space Center on Saturday, July 16. All scouts, parents & guests met at the Visitor Complex's front gate at 10 A.M. Shortly after entering the complex, the pack boarded a bus for a tour. The bus tour took the pack past the Vehicle Assembly Building, then on to the Launch Complex 39 Observation Gantry. The pack reboarded the bus and went to the Apollo/Saturn 5 Center and ate lunch there. The pack then returned to the Visitor Complex and viewed "Hubble 3D" in the IMAX theatre. The rest of afternoon was spent exploring the Visitor Complex's many attractions & exhibits. After leaving the Space Center, the pack (those signed up) checked into the La Quinta Inn & Suites on Cocoa Beach and hit the pool for an hour or so. Then, everyone went to restaurants of their choosing in smaller groups. We all then went to sleep after a busy day. The next morning breakfast was provided at the hotel which included waffles, sausage gravy and biscuits, eggs, bacon, sausage, assorted cereals and breads and a variety of breakfast beverages. Following a good breakfast, the pack headed to the beach at 10 A.M., where the pack held a Scout’s Own Sunday Service. After the service, everyone hit the surf, where the waves were up and the kids had a great time body surfing and boogie boarding. Many headed back to the pool just before lunch and most headed back home after lunch on their own.




Pack 426's trip to the Ice Sports Forum was Saturday, August 6th, 2011.  The pack met in our reserved party room at 11 A.M. After all those participating arrived, there was a 2-game session of laser tag. The red team beat the blue team in both games, Go Red Team!! Then the pack had a Papa John’s pizza and soda party before donning ice skates for 1 ½ hour ice skate session. After much fun, the pack's ice skating trip concluded at 2 P.M.



Pack 426 held their 2011 Orange Crate Derby on Saturday, May 21 from around 8:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. The derby took place at the same location as last year, on North Main Ave. between Lakeview St. and Heartland Blvd. A representative from the Toby the Clown Foundation attended with the derby car that they decorated. Donuts and Juice were served. And of course, the car drivers had a great time between crashes.


The May 16 Pack Meeting took place at the pack's storage warehouse instead of the Presbyterian Church. The scouts & leaders checked the derby cars and did the necessary repairs to get them ready for the Orange Crate Derby on Saturday, May 21.

Pack 426 held its Fall Roundup at Lake Placid Elementary on Sept. 1 and Lake Country Elementary on Sept. 22. A total of 27 boys from both schools joined Pack 426 this fall. Welcome to the pack!


Some scouts from Pack 426, along with family and friends, came out to Tropicana Field for the Scout Day With The Rays on Sunday, September 25. The Rays took on the Toronto Blue Jays and won 5 to 2!!



On Monday, September 19, the Bears went to the Lake Placid Depot Museum. They took a tour of the museum, the red caboose and the jail.


To coincide with our Popcorn Sales Kickoff,"Movie Night" was the theme for our 1st Pack Meeting of the Fall on Monday, September 26.

Popcorn Sales (Show & Sell) at Publix were on the weekend of October 15-16 from 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. or later. The scouts worked 2 hours shifts manning tables at each entrance and sold $1300 worth of popcorn!!

Pack 426 attended the 2011 Spook-O-Ree and Scare Trail on the weekend of October 21-23 at Flaming Arrow Scout Reservation in Lake Wales. After arriving and setting up camp on Friday afternoon & early evening some of the scouts went to the council ring and watched "Spooky Buddies". Saturday started with the opening flag raising ceremonies. Saturday morning activities included Boo Toss & Catch, Quiditch (Webelos did the Rappelling Wall) and a Craft. After lunch, the scouts' activities included Volleyball, BB Guns and Archery. When the sun set, the spooks came out for the Spook Trail & Fall Festival. Their were games, food, goodies and a costume contest at the festival. Hay Rides took passengers back & forth between the Fall Festival and the Spook Trail. On Sunday morning, before breaking camp there was an Interfaith Service at the Chapel.

Our most recent pack meeting on Monday, October 31 was the "Fall Festival". There were goodies along with many activities. The activities included apple bobbing, ring toss, candy corn catch, pumpkin golf and many more.


Two Scouts from Pack 426, along with their family and friends went to Raymond James Stadium for the Scout Day With The Bucs on Sunday, November 13. The Bucs took on the Houston Texans at 1:00P.M. Despite the Bucs losing to the Texans 37 to 9, all attendees had lots of fun!


Our pack meeting on Monday, November 28 was "Bowling Night". The pack met at the Royal Palms Bowling Center at 6:30 P.M. About 30 scouts and some of their siblings got to bowl a game on 8 lanes. While bowling, the scouts were served a hot dog and a soda.

Pack 426's Christmas Party was during the December 12 Pack Meeting. Unfortunately, Santa wasn't able to make it due to other pressing matters. However, the scouts each received a pinewood derby car kit. Everyone brought a little bit of everything, such as pigs-in-a-blanket, deviled eggs, chips, cookies, cupcakes, brownies & juice. Umm, all those goodies sure were delicious and everyone had a great time.
This year's Lake Placid Christmas Parade was on Saturday, December 10, starting at 7:00 P.M. The pack rode on a float, instead of walking, this year. A few scouts and their parents came early and helped decorate and put together the float. The rest of the cub scouts who were riding in the parade arrived by about 6:30  P.M. A few parents walked alongside the float handing out candy to spectators along the parade route, which was from Dal Hall Blvd. down Main Ave. to Interlake Blvd., then down Interlake Blvd. to Eucalyptus and then back to Dal Hall. After the parade, there was coffee, hot chocolate, cookies & other desserts at the First Presbyterian Church.

The Gulf Ridge Council had a Scout Day at Legoland on Jan. 21, 2012. Some scouts attended the Scout Day. If you have any photos of Scout Day at Legoland, please send them in.


This year's Blue & Gold Banquet and Pinewood Derby have been planned for the same night on Friday, February 24. The festivities will start at 6:00 P.M. in the Friendship Hall of the Presbyterian Church..... More to info come.
Gentlemen, start your engines! The 2012 Orange Crate Derby is scheduled for Saturday, March 3. The will run down Main Ave., between Lakeview St. & Heartland Blvd. from 8 A.M. to 12 P.M. Also, in order to get the derby cars in good racing condition, there will be a 'repair day' on Sunday, February 19 at the pack's warehouse......More info to come.




Splash-O-Ree will be on April 13-15 at Flaming Arrow Scout Reservation in Lake Wales, FL.
For the pack meeting on January 30, Nell Hayes, the Public Relations Officer for the Highlands County Sheriff's Office visited the pack along with two K-9 Unit deputies and their partners. Mrs. Hayes went over many ways that scouts and parents to be safe and help prevent crimes. She also explained some of the dangers of the internet and how to avoid them. Deputy Parker and Deputy Williams talked about the use of dogs in law enforcement. All dogs in K-9 Units do many different jobs and each dog trained to do particular a job. The deputies introduced their partners to the scouts and showed them what these dogs can do to prevent and solve crimes. Deputy Parker's partner was a bloodhound named Maverick used to track scent. Deputy Williams' partner, Cain is a Belgian Malinois  trained in the apprehension of criminals.
During the weekend of February 3-5, Pack 426 went on a camping trip to Camp Brorein. Camp Brorein is located in Odessa, Florida, just north of Tampa. There  were over 20 campers from Pack 426 who camped at Camp Brorein that weekend. Some of the activities during the campout were rock climbing, repelling, archery and BB Gun. Some of those who went to the campout also attended Scout Night with the Tampa Bay Lightning at the St. Pete Times Forum on Saturday, February 4 at 7:00 P.M. Lightning took on the Florida Panthers and won 6 to 3. If anyone has photos of the campout and the hockey game, send them in.






The annual "Scouting For Food" scout food drive is happening now. On February 13, scouts met for their den meetings at different neighborhoods to go door-to-door and drop off "Scouting For Food" bags. On Saturday, February 18, the dens will report to the same neighborhoods to collect the bags of food at 9:00 A.M. Then they will deliver the food to the Presbyterian Church between 10 & 11 A.M. Neighborhoods have been assigned as follows: Webelos - Water's Edge, Bears - Oak Island, Wolves - Sunset Point & Tigers - Meadowlake. For those who participate in the food bag drop & pick up, we will have a pizza party at the playground behind the church at about 11:00  A.M. on Saturday after all food has been delivered to the church.
